Kitchen - Dinnerware Tips

Kitchen - Dinnerware

Buy a least two sets of dinnerware. One should be formal, to be used for special occasions. This set should have enough place setting for large dinner parties. Classic white bone china dinnerware is preferable but sobe desings are acceptable as well. The other set should be for casual day-to-day use. They have to be more functional, be microwave and dishwasher friendly and very hardy. If they are scratch-proof, you won't have to keep changing them frequently. Extras such as coffee mugs or cereal bowls can be part of such a casual dinnerware set.

Remember, dishes will get broken. It is important to check with the manufacturer to find out if individual replacement pieces are sold separately.

It is important to measure your cupboards before you purchase dinnerware. A common problem is not being able to close the cupboards because the plates are too big. Additional space will also be needed for any extra serving items that may come with the dinnerware such as a serving bowl, a platter, a sugar bowl or a creamer.

Pick separate dinnerware pieces in different colors to mix and match, Use your imagination to create your own original casual dinnerware set.

Get the basic glassware for serving alcohol and other beverages. These are the kinds you will absolutely need; Shot glass, High ball glass, Rocks glass, White and red wine glasses, Martini glass, Margatia glass, Beer Mug.

The material that the dinnerware is made of is another factor you need to consider. The most popular kinds of dinnerware are made from bone china, earthenware, porcelain, stoneware and glass. All of these types of dinnerware are made of clay, but they differ in how long they are fired in a kiln and the kind of clay used. Stoneware, pottery and earthenware are all made of similar clay. However, stoneware is fired at a very high temperature so it tends to be more scratch resistant that the other clay options. Porcelain is made of high quality clay that tends to be brittle and may break or chip easily. Bone china is a type of porcelain that has bone ash added to it, causing it to be very strong.
