Work Experience
March 2010 - current
Freelance consultant
Unicita Consulting Pvt. Ltd. / Actila, Bangalore, India October 2008 – February 2010
Research Scientist / Product Manager
Worked on an artificial stone related project for furniture industry, carried out patent research analysis, drafted provisional and non-provisional patents, and identified and sourced raw materials. Materials worked with include silicones, unsaturated polyester resins, structural foam, cenospheres and glass fibers. Processes include fiber reinforced plastic processes.
Gujarat Petrosynthese Ltd., Bangalore, Karnataka, India July 2006 – July 2008
Senior Manager-Technical
Managed projects to improve existing compounds and develop compounds for new applications, was involved in optimizing extruder output, color control in the final product through the use of spectrophotometer. In addition I carried out technical marketing and market development for Polyisobutylene and silicones. Compounds worked with include talc filled PP, glass filled Polyamide, glass filled POM, PEEK, ABS, PC/PO, PC/ABS, PA/PP. Tests carried out include Tensile and Flexural testing, Impact testing, HDT, VST and Color test using spectrophotometer. Machines worked with include injection molding machine and twin screw extruder. Other responsibilities included overall quality control of the final product, implementation of TQM and EMS.
Freelance Consultant June 2005 – June 2006
Freelance consultation for rubber roller Company and for textile machinery company. This involved improvement of rubber rollers and metal part replacement.
The Flexaust Company, Inc., El Paso, TX, USA Jan. 2001- Nov. 2004
Rubber Process / Product Engineer
Formulated compound to achieve cost reduction. Analyzed raw material and processing data to improve extrusion process and product performance. Implemented process changes to increase productivity. Qualified and approved compound suppliers. Evaluated product and carried out time study to determine bottlenecks in the process. Supported manufacturing, production and quality teams. Compounds worked with included Polychloroprene, Polyisoprene, EPDM, NBR and SBR. Areas of work within the department were related to extrusion, curing, finishing and quality aspects of Flat belt product. Carried out testing of the final product in Vacuum Cleaners according to ASTM F555 standards and carried out data acquisition.
Hussey Plastics Company, Tyngsboro, MA, USA Sept. 1999-Aug. 2000
Project Engineer
Developed an alternative less expensive flame retardant system for a HDPE blow molded stadium seat, investigated replacement of metal part with an injection molded plastic part, achieved cycle time reduction for a blow molded part through material modification. Metal part replacement was achieved through research of materials, estimation of properties with respect to matrix and fibers and their processing method. Further I designed a test rig in house to test the new product using available resources. Cycle time reduction involved research of additives, optimization of processing conditions, testing of injection molded specimens according to ASTM standards, using a 22 ton injection molding machine for molding and Instron machine for testing. Later the conditions were scaled up for actual blow molding of stadium seat arm rests.
Naltech Pvt. Ltd., N.A.L., Bangalore, India Aug. 1996-Nov. 1997
Polymer Consultant
Worked on database on composite materials, compiled reports on Filament Winding and Resin Transfer Molding
Thermodors Pvt. Ltd., Poona, India July 1995-May 1996
Polymer Engineer
Optimized blending parameters resulting in optimum processability, tested raw materials, finished and semi-finished products, supported manufacturing and production involving glass fibers. Raw materials worked with involved epoxy and polyester resins, glass rovings and mats. Testing of raw materials required handling of rheological equipments; to test viscosity and cure characteristics.
