Bathroom Details Taps & Fittings Tips

Bathroom Details Taps & Fittings

God is in the details. Which is why the fittings can make or break your bathroom. Today, most styles of hardware come with matching components whether you're looking for the wash basin tap or the shower mixer. So once you've made your choice of design and form, you can simply pick up all the set components at one go.

Again if it's taps we're talking about, style is something that is subjective. Depending on your basin and your bath, your tap can be wall, deck or floor mounted. Each has its pros and cons, Wall mounted taps protrude from the wall, while deck-mounted ones will stand vertically on the rim of the bath or basin. Floor-mounting will mean that the tap is elevated on a raiser or a stand pipe that runs to the floor.

One very important aspect of fittings we all need to know about is their material, style and finish. Silver colored fittings are normally plated in chrome or nickel, though platinum, steel, aluminum and even genuine silver plating is not uncommon today. Gold colored fittings are generally perceived as the traditional choice, and sometimes even come across as glitzy. The finish itself is most commonly polished brass or a brass alloy. These yellow metals are all quite soft, so will scratch and eventually show signs of wear. Look for mixage finishes today where chrome is accented by gold or then matt and polished finishes are mixed together for a contemporary zing.
