JSW Paints will appeal the Competition Commission of India (CCI) ruling dismissing allegations of unfair trade practices by Asian Paints. The company, which is part of the $22 billion JSW Group, is appealing the decision of CCI before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).
“We do not agree with the commission's order that Asian Paints did not abuse its dominant position. We are currently reviewing the order and will take appropriate action to protect the interests of our customers and dealers for a free and fair market," the statement from JSW Paints reads.
JSW Group entered the decorative paint industry in 2019. It claimed that Asian Paints began encouraging dealers not to do business with JSW and its goods shortly after its launch.
However, CCI concluded in its ruling that Asian Paints' efforts were made to safeguard its economic interests and not to keep JSW Paints off the market.
