RINL-Visakhapatnam steel plant achieved a steelmaking milestone by casting 430 mm Rounds from Caster 4 in Steel Melting Shop -2 (SMS-2) on Saturday night.
"The Caster was built at a cost of around Rs 200 crores in Steel Melt Shop-2, to produce higher diameter 430 mm Rounds for the first time in India," an official statement said.
The new Caster is the prime source of raw material for the upcoming forged wheel plant at Rae Bareli in UP, which is scheduled to be commissioned during September 2019. The Rounds can be used in Seamless pipe, precious forging and wheel application etc.
Commenting on the development, P K Rath, chairman RINL said the plant is always in forefront in adapting new technologies in steel making process and widely known as a quality steel maker. The new facility is also is capable of casting all grades of steel through submerged casting route, the statement added.The Caster is also designed to produce high quality blooms and rounds.
