The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has listed 1,824 housing projects in the state as 'expired' for exceeding the completion deadlines set by the regulatory body.
The projects would now require approval from 51% buyers to obtain an extension of the delivery dates. 103 such projects exceeded the completion deadline in 2017, 541 in 2018 and 1,180 in 2019.
According to Article 6 of the Real Estate Regulations and Development Act, many projects had not yet been completed, even after an extension of one year.
By law, developers are not allowed to sell, advertise or market them before requesting an extension.
