Builders in Turkey have announced a one-day strike to protest the sharp price hike of cement, which will take place on September 2, 2021.
The Turkish Builders Confederation (IMKON) spoke to the government that prices of all raw materials have risen since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, but cement prices rose inappropriately.
According to the cement producers, prices have registered a significant price increase. Electricity costs rose 64% year-on-year (YoY) in July 2021, while coal prices rose more than double over the same period.
According to the domestic price index of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), cement prices in Turkey rose by about 56% year-on-year in July.
