The city planning wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued nearly 3,500 notices to property owners engaging in commercial activities after obtaining a residential permit.
Property owners who abuse the residential buildings in Hyderabad are said to run shops, offices and boutiques.
The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had warned the owners to convert the buildings into commercial establishments or stop abusing them before slapping property owners.
Last month, GHMC published a list of 118 new roads marked as commercial routes. Taking into account traffic density, noise pollution and the space crisis, the government did not agree with the proposal to declare all 30 meter wide roads in the city as commercial routes.
GHMC will not apply the impact fee where the site is a commercial belt component or has already been designated for commercial use in the master plan. The impact fee for a structure with only one storey or less is 6% or Rs 300 per square foot. For the building with more than one floor, 3% or Rs, an impact fee of 150 per square foot will apply.
