Rain in Kerala: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning in Kerala, forecasting heavy rain in six districts today. A similar warning was issued for five other districts on Sunday. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has ravaged the coast of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Karnataka for the past four days. The effect was caused by a cyclone that turned into a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.
In a fresh-weather bulletin on Friday evening, IMD warned of "heavy to very heavy rain" in remote areas above Kerala. It will be accompanied by thunder and lightning. According to the IMD bulletin, Kerala will continue to experience heavy rainfall until November 16. Idukki district collector Sheeba George said the shutters of the Cheruthoni dam of the Idukki reservoir could be opened on Saturday or Sunday if the rain continues in the district.
Rain is expected on Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki, while the warning on November 14 warns of heavy rain in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki.
