The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) demanded tough action on Monday against e-commerce giant Amazon for allegedly selling marijuana on its platform.
The president of CAIT Rajasthan, Subhash Goyal, said that both the central and state governments should establish rules to prevent such smuggling transactions on his platform, which harms the future of the youth in the country.
“There have been cases of the sale of illegal substances such as marijuana on the Amazon platform, and an FIR has also been filed against the company in Madhya Pradesh. The government must investigate the matter thoroughly and punish the perpetrator,” he said.
Goyal added that there should be no laxity for powerful multinational corporations.
He said e-commerce companies have eaten into the markets of traditional merchants and that CAIT is ready to take on the challenge from them.
"But we can't let Amazon and other e-commerce companies play with the health of our youth," he said.
Goyal demanded that the government develop a mechanism to track online transactions.
"Every business transaction in the store is verified. But transactions through the online platform are not credible. You order a shoe and you get a stone delivered. People are fooled online. There is no story," he claimed.
