The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the 766 km bullet train corridor project proposed between Mumbai and Nagpur.
The DPR must be submitted to the government by 2022 at the latest. According to an official, project work including lidar survey, aerial survey, social impact assessment (SIA) and environmental impact assessment (EIA) has been completed for the high-speed train project. The collected data is analyzed for the DPR.
The high-speed railway will pass through ten districts and land purchase will be required in some districts.
The bullet train project aims to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur by more than 50%. An official said it now takes 12 hours to reach Nagpur by road from Mumbai. However, the bullet train will reduce the time to four hours. After the government sanctions the project, project work continues.
He added that the running of bullet trains parallel to Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg is also under investigation. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Limited (MSRDC) is developing a 700 km six-lane highway project between Mumbai and Nagpur.
