Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun development of the 3.5km stretch of Mysuru Road to Aditya Bakery Circle on Uttarahalli Main Road.
The stretch runs from Mysuru Road towards Uttarahalli via Mylsandra and Channasandra. It includes housing, a technology park, technical colleges and a hospital. The traffic on the route is increasing exponentially.
According to BBMP's traffic cell, there is a daily traffic congestion of 25,741 passenger cars (PCUs) on the stretch, which is expected to increase to 1 lakh in 20 years.
The civil body has an investment plan of Rs 51 crore to make it a four-lane stretch. The acquisition of 143 homes has started and work is expected to be completed within a year. The Civil Body has offered transferable development rights (TDRs) to land losers.
According to a senior engineer, BBMP will give twice the area of the surrendered land to the owners. Some landowners have agreed to give away their land, but many want cash compensation.
The owner of Aditya Bakery and Sweets, Y M Janardhan, said TDR is a complicated and controversial process and is demanding cash compensation.
According to data, approximately 23,151 square meters of land will be acquired and 44 buildings will be demolished. The widened road enters the parts of Mylasandra Lake, BGS Health and Education City, Turahalli State Forest, Abhiman Studio, gas stations and private colleges.
The road widening is mentioned in the Masterplan 2015. Many lots within the route are vacant, according to a senior engineer.
A senior Palike official said the department has written to the Lakes Department to approve the road widening project. Forest Department officials approved the proposal. He added that the forest department has agreed to cut 48 trees, while some will be relocated and the rest will be old and dead trees.
