The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) is optimistic that the highly anticipated Navi Mumbai Metro will begin passenger service by the end of March. The metro was scheduled to open in December, but was postponed due to security reasons.
Following a two-day inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) on January 17-18, the Railway Board on Friday approved the Navi Mumbai Metro's rolling stock, including coaches and operational equipment.
The Navi Mumbai Metro is now awaiting the Civil Works Inspectorate of the CMRS which will be the final approval for the launch of the commuter service.
A Cidco official said it is on track with key certification being completed.
