The Ministry of Railways is preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for the Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train project with six other high-speed rail corridors (HSRC).
Under the plan, the proposed bullet train will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to three and a half hours.
Currently, it takes almost 12 hours to cover the distance of 766 km.
On Saturday, State Secretary for Railways Raosaheb Danve told media that the detailed project report (DPR) of the high-speed connectivity project would be prepared at the end of February.
They have proposed this super fast train along with the Samruddhi Highway project. They have the advantage of already owning 70% land. They are only obliged to purchase 30% of the land from private parties.
The report will additionally be prepared by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is also active in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project.
Nitin Gadkari told media that the high-speed train would be another good alternative for transportation between the two cities.
From Nagpur to Igatpuri, the land does not need to be purchased, as the train would operate next to the Samruddhi Highway. From Igatpuri to Mumbai, the land has to be bought.
The high-speed rail network is expected to go from Wardha, Jalna, Shirdi, Nashik, Shahapur before reaching Mumbai.
Besides the Mumbai-Nagpur project, other high-speed corridors include Delhi-Amritsar, Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru, Delhi-Varanasi, Mumbai-Hyderabad, Delhi-Ahmedabad and Varanasi-Howrah.
