For January 2022, Indian Railways set a new freight loading record with 129.11 mt. Over the past 17 months, from September 2020 to January 2022, the national carrier has seen a steady increase in freight load.
According to the Ministry of Railways, Indian Railways loaded 107.56 tonnes of freight in January 2019, 110.58 tonnes in January 2020, 119.55 tonnes in January 2021 and 129.11 tonnes in January 2022. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) was the first zonal railway to reach 200 mt of freight in 2021-22, according to the national carrier, which was reported a few days ago.
