The engineering department of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MCC) has identified 431 km of roads as of April to be re-laid for Rs 75 crore from April.
These roads include internal and external stretches, parking lots and marketplaces. MCC's engineering department will shortly launch a tender, with the aim of starting the assignment of the works shortly in April. The recladding work is divided into three divisions.
The road division I has 162.64 km of roads, road division II has 124.85 km of roads and department III has a total of 142.46 km of roads.
Each road division will be headed by an executive engineer rank officer to monitor the progress of the work. The field officer will inspect and control the quality of the material used and other necessary parameters.
The money to be spent on the reconstruction of roads will come from the approved budget of the next fiscal year against which the Finance Department of the Union Territory Administration (UT) has already approved Rs 545 crore grant.
