Chandigarh : Punjab pushes Rs. 142cr slum resettlement plan In its attempt to resolve the urban slum problem plaguing the state's cities clusters, the Punjab government has launched an ambitious slum rehabilitation scheme especially in the industrial hub of Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar involving a staggering investment worth Rs. 142cr.

Under the newly announced project, the state government has decided to build about 5,142 slum rehabilitation units, State's Industry Minister, Tikshan Sud said adding that the industrial belts including Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar were facing acute problems due to mushrooming slums in these city clusters where migrant workers have to live in unhygienic conditions and the state government is committed to provide them honorable living conditions at affordable rates.
