Bihar will get 559 MW of additional electricity as Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGC) installed the third and final unit with a capacity of 660 MW at Nabinagar, Aurangabad district on Sunday.
Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC). The project to take over Bihar's electricity share of the NTPC plants from the current allocation of 5,362 MW to 5,921 MW.
On Sunday, the NPGC unit completed its 72-hour full-load trial run in the wee hours. Therefore, the unit is now ready for commercial power generation and will add electricity of approximately 660 MW to beneficiary states including Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, Bihar and Jharkhand. With this project, the total generating capacity of the NPGC will be increased from the current 1320 MW to 1980 MW with a total expenditure of Rs 19,412 crore.
Bihar will have a share of 84.8% or 559 MW of electricity that will be generated from the power plant. The remaining share will be allocated to Jharkhand, Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh from this factory.
NTPC spokesman Vishwanath Chandan said the project is the third and final eco-friendly supercritical unit, based on NPGC's 660 MW technology, which started commissioning activities after a pilot operation successfully completed today. Currently, 660 MW units 1 and 2 have reached commercial operating status on September 6, 2019 and July 23, 2021. Bihar will receive electricity from 1,122 MW from the two units.
