Chennai Port Trust (CPT) chairman Sunil Paliwal told media that tenders for Port-Maduravoyal Elevated Corridor would be launched by the end of this month and awarded before September, with an estimated project cost of Rs 5,800 crore.
The piers for the project had already been built along Koyambedu-Maduravoyal Road and will be used. Those along the Cooum river alignment will be demolished as the design has been modified.
The estimated duration of the project is 30 months. CPT plans to introduce II-M to study the movement of vehicles on the back roads.
Paliwal said the port only uses about 60% of the total cargo handling capacity as the port is located in the city.
