The Government of Tamil Nadu has approved the feasibility study for the Coimbatore Mass Rapid Transit System.
The detailed project report (DPR) for Phase I of the project is currently being finalized by Systra and Rites Limited.
A stakeholder meeting recently took place where the Chief Secretary and General Manager of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), Pradeep Yadav, chaired the meeting.
During the meeting, he explained to stakeholders the detailed presentation of the proposed metro rail facility in Coimbatore on the different lines that will be created through the district.
In total, 139 km of metro track will be occupied by CMRL in three phases. Phase I will be constructed for a distance of 44 km on Avinashi road to Karumathampatty road and Sathyamangalam road to Valiampalayam Pirivu from Ukkadam in southern Coimbatore.
District collector Dr. GS Sameeran, Commissioner for City Corporations Raja Gopal Sunkara, other officers and representatives of the Special Initiative Department of CMRL, office holders of Integrated Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCI-C), Codissia, Siema, Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI), attended the meeting.
