Maharashtra is currently evaluating four bids received for a tender for the supply of two million tons (mt) of imported coal. The final details are expected to be announced in the coming month.
The Maharashtra State Power Generation Corporation Limited (Mahagenco) said it has received bids for the aforementioned tender, the largest in at least the past three years, from Chettinad Logistics, Mohit Minerals, Adani Enterprises and Gandhar Oil Refinery.
India has advised utilities to bring imports to their highest level in six years in response to increased demand for coal as power sources increase. Maharashtra is the most industrialized state in the country and also the largest consumer of electricity.
