The Government of Kerala has granted administrative approval to renew the Varkala-Kallambalam road at Rs 16.83 crore.
The issued order also indicates that the accident prone areas at Marakkada Mukku Junction and the bend after Vadasserikonam Junction will be improved, taking into account the road safety needs.
Varkala-Kallambalam Road is one of the most traversed stretches leading to the tourist spots of Sivagiri and Varkala.
As this section is the most dangerous part of the road, the possibility of land acquisition at the Marakkadamukku interchange will be explored. In addition, the footpaths near schools are screened with railings with openings at the zebra crossing.
The transition from the main road to the bus station must be carried out according to the relevant standards and communicated to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the police authorities & Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has been urged to implement the use of bus lanes after construction to avoid the waste of public money.
