Steel Minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh inaugurated Steel Week earlier this month at the Indian pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai.
The event showcases India's potential in the sector and invites investors from the UAE, the Union government said.
Reflecting India's push for new investment in the sector, the event took place against the backdrop of ongoing unrest against a recently proposed steel mill near Paradip port in Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha.
India's aggressive push for new steel represents everything that is at odds with development ambitions, its global role in reducing carbon emissions, its claim to protect the rights of indigenous communities and its respect for public health and safety.
