The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has urged the central government to withdraw its advice to the state power generation companies (gencos) to import coal due to the dry fuel shortage and crippling electricity generation across the country.
According to a statement, correct determination of gross calorific value (GCV) is critical to avoid overloading and overbilling.
The state gencos are exposed to the risk of overcharging and falsifying GCV values.
AIPEF demanded that the central government revoke the order to the state gencos to import coal.
AIPEF Chairman Shailendra Dubey told Energy Minister RK Singh that if states are forced to import coal, the central government should bear the additional burden of imported coal so as not to overload the discos and consumers.
