Home buyers have welcomed the decision of the government of Maharashtra to extend its flagship affordable housing facility known as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY Urban) until September 2022.
Last month, the center had announced to Maharashtra that PMAY-Urban will be extended until September 2022, officials of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), the hub for the implementation of PMAY in Maharashtra, said.
They indicated that the PMAY scheme may be extended until 2024.

The government of Maharashtra has set a target of building 19.40 lakh houses by 2022 under the PMAY scheme.
According to the MHADA data, under the PMAY scheme, until December 2021, all 1,161 projects consisting of 13 lakh residential units have been sanctioned, of which the construction works of 4.86 lakh residential units have been completed, and those of 2.12 lakh residential units have been completed. housing units is in progress.
The Housing Department of the Government of Maharashtra has issued a notice to accelerate the approvals of the PMAY projects.
Although the given extension period is shorter, we have to work on uniformity and smooth procedure when approving the projects, according to the notification.
The notification said an additional force of nine engineers would be stationed at MHADA, which will agree to the projects of the current team of about six engineers.
Under the current procedure, MHADA is the focal point and all urban local authorities, including the civil society body and councils after approval of proposals for PMAY housing projects, send them to MHADA's PMAY cell, which in turn sends them to the State Government Commission for permission.
Meanwhile, real estate developers in Mumbai welcomed the extension of PMAY scheme but thought high land prices are a challenge in Mumbai.
