The state cabinet has decided to allocate Rs 16,424 crore in electricity price subsidies to the agricultural sector for the fiscal year (FY) 2022-23.
It is in addition to the Rs 5,584 crore subsidy sanctioned for household users under the Griha Jyoti Yojana plan. The state government pays the subsidies to the electricity distribution companies.
Home Secretary Narottam Mishra told media that the total subsidy on electricity tariff would be more than Rs 22800 crore. Farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs 16,424 crore while household consumers will continue to receive a subsidy of Rs 5,584 crore.
For meterless agricultural connections up to 10 hp, farmers would be charged a fixed price of Rs 750 per hp per year.
