The village panchayat at Kurudampalayam in Coimbatore, known for meticulously turning waste into treasure, has taken the next step by using plastic collected in the village to build roads.
On Saturday, the village of Panchayat successfully constructed a 200-meter road at Priyanka Nagar near Palanigoundanpudur with crushed waste plastic mixed in it on a trial basis with the help of a private waste disposal company and experts.
Villagers said this is the first project successfully completed in the district.
There are nine villages and more than 13000 families under this panchayat. The local authority collects 10 tons of waste per day and the dry plastic waste alone collects on average about 4000 kg per day.
