New Delhi : Govt fixes Rs. 70,000cr roads for the fiscal The Union Government has targeted to build 11,050km long national highways involving an estimated investment of Rs. 70,000cr during the current financial year, Minister of Road Transport and Highways C P Joshi said, adding that in this connection the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has recently reviewed the entire road building plans with the senior officials from Union Transport Ministry and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and also fixed separate targets for various on going national highways programs.

Elaborating further he added claiming that of the total road projects to be awarded during the current financial year, 7,300km would be contracted under an ambitious National Highways Development Program (NHDP) thereby recording an increase of 44 percent as compared to 5,095km road works contracted in the preceding fiscal.

Under the NHDP programs the government has targeted Rs. 57,000cr investments for the fiscal. As a part of speedy road development strategy especially in the left wing extremism (LWE) infected areas the government is keen to complete 1,759km of roads involving a whopping investment of Rs. 3,000cr on fast tracked basis during the current fiscal.
