The government told media that the country's domestic production of raw coking coal could reach 140 million tons (mt) by 2030, from its current 51.7 million tons.
Coking coal is an important raw material for iron and steel production.
With transformative steps taken by the Ministry of Coal under the Prime Minister's Atmanirbhar Bharat (PM) initiative, domestic production of raw coking coal is expected to reach 140 million tons by 2030, the ministry of coal said.
The center has auctioned 10 coking coal blocks to the private sector, with a maximum nominal capacity (PRC) of 22.5 million tons in the past two years, to further increase the output of raw coking coal.
