Rising solar cell and module costs pressure developers

The cost of photovoltaic solar panels (PV) has risen by more than 40% in the past 18 months to $27-28 cents per watt, due to a rise in polysilicon prices. This is mainly caused by disruptions in the value chain activities of solar module manufacturing in China and an increase in the cost of polysilicon, a critical material for module manufacturers. Rising cell and module prices have contributed to the cost constraints facing solar power manufacturers, even as supply chain concerns continue to ease.

While the bid rates have increased from Rs 1.99 per unit in December 2020 to Rs 2.2-2.5
