NMDC has plans to invest in the renewable energy sector, said Chairman and CEO Sumit Deb. The company is exploring locations in Telangana to set up solar capacities.
NMDC's sponge iron unit, located at Paloncha in Telangana, has a capacity of 100 tons per day. At this time, there is no plan to restart the factory, Deb said in an answer to another question related to the unit.
Under the Ministry of Steel, NMDC is the largest mining company in the country. It planned to make a foray into the steel sector by setting up a 3 million tons per year Nagarnar Steel Plant (NSP) in Chhattisgarh, with an estimated investment of Rs 23,140 crore.
