The Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has demanded from the Union government that the coal supply to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) from the mines be guaranteed, as it is with other steel companies in the country.
A protest was staged in Visakhapatnam by steel workers under the auspices of CITU, demanding the intervention of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to put pressure on the Center in this regard.
At the meeting, CITU leaders said the coal shortage would affect production at the VSP. The center supplied coal to other steel companies such as Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Jindal and Ispat Industries Ltd, but denied the same to the VSP, causing it to suffer a loss.
