After a brief opening on Friday for stranded vehicles and the Amarnath yatra convoy, the Jammu-Srinagar state highway has been closed to car traffic again due to landslides and falling rocks, officials said on Saturday.
"The Jammu-Srinagar (NH-44) highway is still blocked. People are advised not to travel on the NH-44 without confirmation from TCU Jammu/Srinagar/Ramban," the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police said.
Since Saturday morning, it has been raining incessantly in many places in Jammu and Kashmir.
This highway is the lifeline of the Kashmir Valley and the main road connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country.
Kashmir-bound trucks loaded with essentials and other vehicles drive on the highway and fruit trucks from Kashmir drive on this road to the rest of the country.
