Doosan seeks Rs. 18,000cr equipment contract

New Delhi : Engineering giants Doosan and Thermax have joined the race for securing the supercritical equipment contract from the NTPC involving a staggering investment worth Rs. 18,000cr. The mega technical bids for the project involving supply of boilers opened recently saw participation from five companies and consortiums and the NTPC is currently evaluating the firms on the basis of their technical parameters before they are given nod to place their financial bids.

Sources claimed that the Korean equipment makers Doosan and Thermax have also forged technical collaboration with US based Babcock and Wilcox for manufacturing supercritical equipment in the country and are participating for the first time in the bulk tender process started by the NTPC. The BHEL and Larsen and Toubro are the other players in the race for 800mw equipment supply contract for the projects. The equipment in question are aimed at improving the efficiency of NTPC plants alongside helping the company to reduce emissions in its upcoming projects like Lara in Chhattisgarh, Darllipalli and Gajmara in Orissa and Kudgi in Karnataka.
