Coal is the mainstay of India's energy system and nearly 70% of total electricity generation is coal-based. The government has taken the following steps to introduce clean coal technologies into the coal sector to contribute to the country's future energy security.
Mission Coking Coal was launched to increase the production and supply of coking coal and to meet the demands of the steel industry. As part of this mission, 12 coking coal laundries with a capacity of approximately 30 MTY will be built.
The government has launched a coal gasification mission with the goal of gassing 100 tons by 2030.
