According to a written response recently presented in Parliament by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, as of June 30, 2022, Tamil Nadu had the largest installed wind capacity of all states at 9,867 megawatts (MW).
According to Bhagwant Khuba, Secretary of State for New and Renewable Energy, the cumulative installed capacity of wind power plants in the country as of June 30, 2022 is 40,788 MW.
According to Jyoti Gulia, founder and director of renewable energy consultancy JMK Research, the main reason for the large number of installations in Tamil Nadu is the state's good wind sites due to its proximity to the coastline, resulting in more installations.
