NTPC has reached 69,454 MW of installed and commercial capacity of the group with the commissioning of 56 MW Kawas Solar PV Project at NTPC Kawas, Gujarat.
NTPC plans to reduce its carbon footprint by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by installing renewable energy projects in its existing stations and establishing green RE projects. The company has planned 262 MW of floating solar on more than 1,300 hectares of its reservoir area by installing more than 950,000 PV modules at its various stations, of which 242 MW has been commissioned.
This includes the country's largest floating solar of 100 MW at Ramagundam in Telangana, 92 MW at Kayamkulam in Kerala and 25 MW each in Simhadri, Andhra Pradesh and Kawas in Gujarat. These projects would relieve more than 200,000 households and help reduce more than half a million tons of CO2 emissions on an annual basis. In addition, the projects would save 5 trillion liters of water per year, enough to meet the annual water needs of 15,000 households.
