Ministry asks steel-makers to explore inland waterways for logistics

The Ministry of Steel has advised Indian steelmakers to use the waterway for industry shipping. At least two companies, Tata Steel in the private sector and SAIL in the public sector, have been commissioned to investigate and plan for this opportunity.

According to the conference minutes of the end of August, "SAIL and Tata Steel will present a note with concrete action points" on "the use of waterways for logistics purposes in the steel sector".

The report is expected to be finalized at the next meeting, which is scheduled for September 21. Using waterways offers significant financial savings and is not just a non-polluting option.
