Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly built corridor of Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on October 11. This is the first phase of the Ujjain Mahakal Corridor project, which will expand the temple complex to nearly eight times its current size, from 2.82 hectares to 20.23 hectares by August 2023.
The work in the first phase will include a 900-meter corridor filled with numerous installations, including a theme park, heritage shopping center, e-transport facilities and more. According to Ashish Kumar Pathak, chief executive officer of Smart City Project, the Rs 3.16 billion initiative includes a middle zone, a park, a multi-storey car and bus parking area, solar-powered lighting, a pilgrim facilities center, a mega entrance gate, Narsingh Ghat road, water pipe and a sewer pipe.
"A light and sound system has also been developed along with the installation of 108 pillars with Shiv Tandav shlokas and 52 murals with different stories. Several other statues have also been built," he said.
