To combat the looming energy crisis in the state due to restrictions on domestic coal supply, Rajasthan's state minister for power and top officials will meet Union minister for coal and mines, Prahlad Joshi, in New Delhi.
Power distribution companies (discoms) have pressed the panic button as 18 coal-fired power plants are on coal reserves of less than three days.
After the monsoon, the increased demand for electricity in Rajasthan becomes even more challenging as the supply of coal from Parsa East Kente Basan (PEKB) in Chhattisgarh has been disrupted by local unrest. Moreover, as a result of this disruption, the number of rakes received by Rajasthan Vidhyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUN) has decreased by 9 rakes per day. This shortage is about 40% of the total amount of coal received for electricity generation.
