The cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has appointed the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy's proposal for the implementation of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (Tranche II) on the 'National program on High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules', with an expenditure of Rs.195 billion for achieving a production capacity of Giga Watts ( GW) scale in the high-efficiency solar PV modules.
The National Program for High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules aims to build an ecosystem for the production of high-efficiency solar PV modules in India, thereby reducing import dependency on renewable energy. It will strengthen the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and create employment. Solar panel manufacturers are selected through a transparent selection process.
PLI will be paid for 5 years after the commissioning of solar PV plants on the sale of high-efficiency solar PV modules in the domestic market.
