Swiss agency moots LC3 tech for cement industry

Chennai : The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has proposed a new cement mix based on environmental and energy efficiency - limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) - technology for the cement industry in Andhra Pradesh. The AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) was a special invitee to a conference on limestone calcined clay cement, which is considered a breakthrough in reducing global emissions, organized by SDC and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in chennai. According to Jonathan Demenge, Head of Collaboration and Advisor at the Swiss Embassy in India, LC3 has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40 percent compared to standard cement, while saving production costs by about 20 percent through lower energy consumption.
