To extend the power distribution license of Mumbai metropolitan region to more areas including Mulund, Bhandup, part of Thane district, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Kharghar, Taloja and Uran, Adani Transmission (ATL) has issued a request for public comment.
This is an attempt by ATL to expand into new areas in the MMR and compete with MSEDCL (formerly MSEB), the state-run power company that has been supplying electricity to these areas for over 60 years.
Adani Electricity Navi Mumbai (AENML), the new subsidiary of TL, has recently applied to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) for a distribution license to be issued in the newly discovered areas.
MERC accepted the application on Friday. In five years, it aims to serve more than 5 lakh new customers. Adani Electricity currently serves 31 lakh customers in suburban Mumbai.
