The master plans of three more UP cities have been completed and submitted to the final government approval. Kanpur, Azamgarh and Hapur are the three cities that have been given new emphasis on spatial planning, public health facilities, water supply, urban transport and socio-economic development through the 2031 master plan.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister who also oversees housing and urban planning, authorized the master plans for two cities last week (Ayodhya and Orai in Jalaun). These plans will guide the future guidelines for zoning, planning and development up to the year 2031.
According to Union government guidelines for AMRUT cities, 59 cities will be administered using a master plan based on a GIS (geographical information system) for the year 2031.
In addition, the majority of cities in UP's previous master plans had expired by 2011 according to officials, 16 of the 59 cities' master plans are now being finalized, with the rest approaching completion.
“Two of the five plans already submitted to the government for final approval have been accepted. The last three can be chosen at any time. Within a month we will provide 38 more master plans to the government," said a senior housing department officer.
A 300 hectare aerotropolis will be part of a new commercial city that will be built on 150 hectares land next to Chakeri airport by local development authority. The knowledge city (institutions for education, research and development), electric vehicle parking lots, medicine (health and wellness), and the mega MSME cluster are all designated for development by Kanpur Development Authority.
Development authorities responsible for the sister cities of Azamgarh and Hapur-Pilakhua have urged for more mixed use of the land.
“People have bought land outside the city limits and built houses there as the population has done grown over time. However, land use has not yet changed. In Azamgarh and Hapur, numerous lawsuits related to land use change requests are still pending "a senior officer noticed.
