Delhi to develop Rs. 2,213cr low-cost houses

New Delhi : In an attempt to make Delhi slum free the Union Urban Development Ministry has cleared 9 low cost housing projects under which the government is building nearly 50,000 low cost units across the national capital entailing an investment worth Rs. 2,213cr. Prior to this the Ministry of Housing and Poverty Alleviation has given a go ahead signal to all the projects, which have been targeted to provide honorable living conditions to slum dwellers across the national capital.

Revealing this recently, the Secretary in the urban development wing of the Delhi government, R K Srivastava said that the local government is currently implementing six low cost housing projects for the construction of 18,460 dwellings at a cost of Rs. 470cr. The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) readied 13,528 low cost residential units in scores of areas including Narela, Dwarka, Bhorgarh and Bawana. Apart from providing all the civic amenities the newly built localities are being connected with round the clock transport services so that the living masses may not face any hardship in traveling to their places of work.
