The governments of the northeastern states need time to meet their obligations to provide housing for the rural poor. The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin now has a target date of March 2024 (PMAY-G).
The current status of the program was discussed by Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, the Union Minister of Rural Development, in a written response from Lok Sabha. 85% of the 2.49 crore housing units approved by various states and territories of the Union have been built as of this writing.
But in the Northeast, 50-80% of authorized homes are unfinished. The deadline of the PMAY original G was 2022, but it has already been extended to March 2024. In accordance with the plan, construction of pucca homes with the most basic amenities began on April 1, 2016 nationwide.
The size of a specific house according to the plan is 25 square meters. The whole measurement also includes a space for clean cooking.
By completing the construction of 79.77% of the total 2.49 lakh homes sanctioned under PMAY-G, Tripura has done a fantastic job.
Till 7 December 2022, Meghalaya and Manipur reportedly completed 52.68% and 50.66% of the total approved housing. 65,155 homes were approved in Meghalaya and 36,454 homes in Manipur. Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh are last, with completion rates of only 23.42% and 27.28% respectively. Mizoram has completed 6,167 of the 18,373 homes approved. The largest number of pucca homes under the program have been approved in Assam.
Discussions with the states and territories of the Union, as well as the evaluation of available and qualified beneficiaries, are included.
