The minister went on to say that the government is working to turn the steel industry's long-standing reputation as a carbon-emitting "hard-to-reduce sector" into a low-carbon green steel-producing industry.
To minimize the sector's carbon emissions, he noted, the government is encouraging the use of renewable energy to produce steel, expanding the sector's use of scrap and exploring the use of green hydrogen as a furnace fuel.
Green steel was introduced by Saarloha Advanced Materials, a Kalyani group company, under the brand name Kalyani FeRRESTA.
He also stated that the green steel plant has a capacity of 250,000 tons of steel, but only 20% of that capacity will be used to make green steel in the first year.
