Air India Express issued guidelines on Tuesday for maintaining Covid-appropriate behavior by travelers traveling to India from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The recommendation advises that all visitors should preferably be fully immunized according to the approved primary vaccination schedule against Covid-19 in their country. Other precautions to take while traveling include using masks and physical distancing.
“All guests should preferably be fully vaccinated according to the approved primary vaccination schedule against COVID-19 in their country. All guests should preferably use masks and maintain physical distancing during flights/travel and at all points of entry,” the Air India Express official Twitter handle tweeted.
Notably, the Air India Express, headquartered in Kochi, Kerala, is India's first international low-cost airline, providing connectivity to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. It is run by Air India Express Limited, a wholly owned division of Air India, India's flag carrier.
However, the guidelines stated that random post-arrival testing is not required for children under the age of 12.
The children only need to be tested and treated in accordance with the protocol if they are found to be symptomatic of COVID-19 on arrival or during the self-check.
"Children under the age of 12 are exempt from random testing after arrival. However, if they are found to be symptomatic of COVID-19 on arrival or during the self-monitoring period, they should be tested and treated according to protocol," the advisory by Air India Expressly read.
The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said on Thursday that at least two percent of arriving passengers on international flights to the country will have to undergo random spot checks as part of a precautionary measure for Covid-19.
The MoCA said in an official statement that the passengers must be identified by the airline and allowed to leave the airport after samples are collected. Those who test positive for the infection are isolated and their samples sent for genome sequencing.
Last week, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Lok Sabha said the government has begun random RT-PCR sampling of the passengers arriving at international airports in the country amid the recent spate of coronavirus infections in several countries including China, Japan , South Korea, France , and the United States.
Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Health and Family has also issued "Guidelines for International Arrivals" in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and said the guidelines will be reviewed and revised from time to time.
