Tamil Nadu's Housing and Urban Development Department is planning to build housing at 12 sites across the state in a joint venture with private developers, state minister S Muthusamy said.
After chairing a consultation meeting with flat owners of Singanallur housing unit, the minister said the department will roll out the joint venture model to build 960 flats in Coimbatore.
“Because the flats in Singanallur, which were built 35 years ago, have been damaged, residents urged the state government to build new houses for them. We will build new homes on the site through a joint venture of the housing association, a private contractor and TNHB,” he said.
The houses will be built within two years using Mivan technology, an aluminum formwork system, the minister said. “The developer will use the current space to build the housing unit and get some apartments in return. The construction will last at least 80 years. Residents of TNHB (Tamil Nadu Housing Board) associations in other places have demanded new houses and six such projects are in the final stages of discussion.
