The Maharashtra Real Estate Appellate Tribunal (MREAT) has overturned the ruling of the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Body (MahaRERA) regarding the registration of real estate portals as real estate agents and asked the authority to hear the matter again.
In October 2019, the real estate authority asked for web portals to be registered as real estate agents. The web portals had opposed this decision, claiming that they were not helping to sell, but were simply presenting information to the public through advertisements.
Real estate portals further claimed that they advise visitors to their websites to review project facts from various authorities, including MahaRERA, before making a final decision.
The Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (MGP) filed a complaint with MahaRERA in July 2018, claiming that web portals should be registered as real estate brokers with the government.
